WWW.BILDERREPUBLIK is not a database, it´s a search-engine, which searches in the affiliated databases of the enclosed Photojournalists. In this respect www.bilderrepublik.de is not responsible for the contents.

BASICALLY: at www.bilderrepublik.de you can search and view previews without formalities. This zone is accessible to everyone. For the download of hi-res pictures and the use of the Lightbox a password is required which you can obtain by a link at the preview-window. Any use of the pictures is subject to a fee. Please also observe the General Delivery and Business Terms. Access is denied to private persons and photo agencies.

SEARCH: You have the following options:
Enter a word. The search function will look for the word and the word as a part of other words.
EXAMPLE: [Kanzleramt] offers: Kanzleramt, Bundeskanzleramt, Kanzleramtsminister etc.
- You enter several words separated by spaces. The said words will be looked for by an “AND” connection.
EXAMPLE: [Schroeder Plenum] will find: all pictures of “Schroeder” AND “Plenum”
- By entering a word in quotation marks, the search will find the exact word.
EXAMPLE: [“Kabinett”] won’t find Kabinettsitzung or Kabinettsaal.
- By entering several words in quotation marks, the search function will find the exact word order.
EXAMPLE: [“Gerhard Schroeder”] only finds Gerhard Schroeder.
- Enter a particular date by using the formula YYYYMMDD or a partial date (YYYYMM or YYYY).
EXAMPLE 1: [20010305] will find all pictures taken on March 5, 2001.
EXAMPLE 2: [200103] will find all pictures taken in March 2001.
- You also can connect a word with a keyword given in the pull-down menu.
EXAMPLE: [“Gerhard Schroeder”] and the keyword [PORTRAIT] will find all portraits of Gerhard Schroeder.

With the pulldown menu KEYWORDS you can select a keyword and combine it by an AND-function. If you want to use more than one word of the KEYWORDS pulldown, you have to type it into the SEARCH-field.

The AND NOT field enables you to search with negations (AND NOT). Only pictures will be found whose captions do not include the words entered in the AND NOT field (with the same options as in the simple search function).

The search results will be shown to you as a thumbnail view. At the top of the window you will still see your search enquiry, which you can change and start again.
By clicking on to one of the small thumbnails, you will be linked to the database of the photojournalist and get a preview of the picture.

PREVIEW: the preview is a view of a picture denoted with a watermark. In the preview you can find the caption and some buttons:
By using the "arrow-type" symbol (back) you return to the previously visited page, i.e. the "Sheet" or "List" view from which you loaded the preview.
By using the “Magnifier” symbol (move to lightbox) you can copy the picture to the lightbox. From there you also can download several pictures as a zip file (see LIGHTBOX).
Using the "mailbox symbol" (e-mail) you can have a picture sent via e-mail to the e-mail address indicated at your registration and later download it from your server.
By using the "Disk symbol" (download) you can download the picture to your computer. For this a password is required (see Registration). Click the “disk symbol” and a browser window opens in which the high-res picture will be built up. Once the picture has been completely built up you may transfer the picture via drag-and-drop function to your desktop. Then the window can be closed.
Using the printer symbol (prints) the preview will be printed on your local printer.
Using "get PASSWORD" will link you with the password registration.

LIGHTBOX: the lightbox can´t be used as an overall database, you can only collect the pictures of one photographer into the Lightbox of his database. A password is required to use the Lightbox. You will find all the pictures chosen via clicking on the “Magnifier” symbol in the Lightbox. This is your personal motif pre-selection which will remain even after leaving www.politik-photo.de and after termination of the internet connection. You have the following possibilities:
- Click DOWNLOAD underneath the picture: the picture will be downloaded to your computer.
- Click EMAIL PIX underneath the picture and the picture will automatically be sent via e-mail to the address indicated at your registration.
- Click DELETE underneath the picture to remove a motif from the Lightbox.
- You will find the following buttons under your Lightbox selection:
- Click the “MAILBOX SYMBOL” (e-mail) to have all the pictures in the Lightbox sent via e-mail to the address indicated at your registration and to later download the pictures from your server.
- Activation of the “cross symbol” (empty lightbox) removes all the pictures from the lightbox. It is advisable to do so after termination of your search, otherwise the pictures will be shown again at your next visit to www.politik-photo.de.
- Using the “packet symbol” (ZIP file) you can have the pictures sent compressed as a zip file (no loss of quality) via e-mail to the address indicated at your registration and later download the pictures from your server.
- “E-mail offer” is only relevant to the web administrator.

PASSWORD REGISTRATION: you require a password to download hi-res pictures and to use the Lightbox. You have to register in order to prevent misuse of the online database.
You will get to the Registration page by a link at the preview-window. You must get a password for every affiliated database separately and each photographer has to activate the access to his pictures, but you can use this password for every future download..
Please complete every field. The declaration of your e-mail address is necessary for the download of pictures via e-mail. Ensure that both the username and the password consist exclusively of small letters and numbers. Full access to the database will be granted after verification of data by every single photographer (only fully completed forms will be considered). The data will be stored but not passed on to third persons. In case you need a picture immediately and don’t have a password, do not hesitate to call the photographer.
